Long Sault Ridge Runners is a snowmobile club comprised of a
cooperative group of members who volunteer their time and efforts
to enhancing the sport of snowmobiling in Ontario. The
snowmobile club was originally formed in 1967 with ten members and
the clubhouse was located in the old Darlington Township. In 1978
the club relocated to the 9th Conc. Clarke Township
east of Hwy # 115.
However, this
dedicated group of snow-mobilers had a vision of one day owning a
permanent clubhouse. After a lot of planning, hard work, fund
raising and co-operation of all its members, that dream became a
reality. In 1981 a parcel of land was purchased west of Hwy # 35
on Sandy Hook Road (formerly Manvers 2nd Line) just
south of Pontypool. In 1985 a two-storey building was erected.
The Long Sault Ridge Runners
concentrate their focus on District 3 of the Ontario Federation of
Snowmobile Clubs. As a club they work in conjunction with other
clubs to maintain the accessibility and safety of the trail system.
The club also maintains a focus on the community, taking part in
events like Snowarama. In 1986 the club started Driver Training
courses for students 12 and over who do not have a valid drivers
license but want to learn how to safely operate a snowmobile.
The Long Sault Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club is a member of the
Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs.
The
main focus and interest of the club is snowmobiling; however, there
are activities planned year round so there is usually something for
all ages to enjoy. There is also a ‘social membership’ for non -
snowmobilers.
Some
of the events that take place during the year include:
-
